United Nations Foundation
The United Nations Foundation (UNF) seeks to support the goals and
objectives of the United Nations and its Charter in order to promote
a more peaceful, prosperous, and just world - with special emphasis
on the UN's work, especially on behalf of economic, social, environmental
and humanitarian causes.
Within the overall responsibilities of the UN system in promoting
international peace and security and fostering development, UNF
has identified four areas of particular interest: women and population;
children's health; the environment; and peace, security and human
rights.
The Foundation is engaged in four primary activities in pursuit
of its mission:
Grantmaking -- Providing additional
funding for programs and people served by UN agencies.
Strengthening UN
Institutions and Encouraging Support for the UN and UN Causes
-- Helping to forge new partnerships among and between UN agencies
the private sector and NGOs in order to build support for the UN
and its efforts while also enhancing the effectiveness of service
delivery.
Telling the Story
-- In cooperation with the Foundation's sister organization, the
Better World Fund, sponsoring or conducting outreach efforts aimed
at educating the public about the UN's unique role in addressing
global issues and forging international cooperation.
Raising New Funds to Support UN Programs
and Purposes -- Encouraging other public and private
funders to join and help demonstrate what the UN and the world can
do when the public and private sectors cooperate and co-invest.

UNESCO
UNESCO, United Nations Educational, Scientific
and Cultural Organization, was established in 1945. It has
its headquarters in Paris, France and 73 field offices and units
in different parts of the world. The main objective of UNESCO is
to contribute to peace and security in the world by promoting collaboration
among nations through education, science, culture and communication
in order to further universal respect for justice, for the rule
of law and for the human rights and fundamental freedoms which are
affirmed for the peoples of the world, without distinction of race,
sex, language or religion, by the Charter of the United Nations.
The UNESCO World Heritage Centre
was set up in 1992 to assure the day-to-day management of the World
Heritage Convention. It organizes the annual sessions of the World
Heritage Bureau and Committee, provides advice to States Parties
in the preparation of site nominations, organizes international
assistance upon request, and co-ordinates both the reporting on
the condition of sites and the emergency action undertaken when
a site is threatened. It is also responsible for the administration
of the World Heritage Fund. Other tasks of the Centre include arranging
technical seminars and workshops, updating the World Heritage List
and database and developing teaching materials to raise awareness
of the World Heritage concept, and keeping the public informed of
World Heritage issues. It cooperates with other groups working on
issues related to conservation both within UNESCO - notably the
Cultural Heritage Division in the Sector for Culture and the Division
of Ecological Sciences in the Science Sector - and on the outside,
notably the three Advisory Bodies ICOMOS, IUCN and ICCROM.

IUCN - The World Conservation Union
The World Conservation Union was founded
in 1948 and brings together 78 states, 112 government agencies,
735 NGOs, 35 affiliates, and some 10,000 scientists and experts
from 181 countries in a unique worldwide partnership.
Its mission is to influence, encourage and assist societies throughout
the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and
to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically
sustainable.
Within the framework of global conventions IUCN has helped over
75 countries to prepare and implement national conservation and
biodiversity strategies.
IUCN has approximately 1000 staff, most of whom are located in its
42 regional and country offices while 100 work at its Headquarters
in Gland, Switzerland.
IUCN's Commissions
IUCN's worldwide network of some 10,000 volunteer experts in environmental
science, natural resource management, policy, law and education
contribute to setting global and national environmental standards
and policies. These in turn guide the actions of governments and
civil society in sustaining the biological diversity and natural
resources base on which human livelihood depends.
The World Commission on Protected Areas
(WCPA) is the world's leading global network of protected area specialists.
The IUCN Programme on Protected Areas (PPA) is the focal point within
the IUCN Secretariat for Protected Areas and serves as the Secretariat
for WCPA.
The Mission and Objectives of the WCPA
WCPA's international mission is to promote the establishment and
effective management of a world-wide representative network of terrestrial
and marine protected areas, as an integral contribution to the IUCN
mission.

University of Queensland
School of Natural and Rural Systems Management
The School of Natural and Rural Systems Management offers programs
that enable our graduates to impact the international food and fibre
business, manage the natural environment and mold rural communities
for the future. The School focuses on biologically, economically
and socially sustainable approaches to management.
The School of Natural and Rural Systems Management has around 800
Student Load Units and teaches several thousand students at some
time or other over a range of programs across both Gatton and St
Lucia Campuses. The School also offers a number of programs via
distance education.
As one of five Schools of study in the Faculty of Natural Resources,
Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, the School is unique in that
it has no specialised facilities. Instead the School relies on its
extensive industry networks to provide the special areas in which
students can practice and develop their managerial skills.

The Nature Conservancy
Founded in 1951, The Nature Conservancy is the world's largest private,
global conservation group, with a mission to preserve the diversity
of global habitats and species by saving the lands and waters they
need to survive. Science guides the Conservancy's conservation actions
by using solid biological data to identify the world's last great
places and protecting them by establishing a lasting conservation
presence. The Conservancy's one-million-plus members have helped
protect more than 12 million acres of habitat in the United States
and nearly 80 million acres in Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean,
Asia and the Pacific. The Nature Conservancy currently manage 1,340
preserves, the largest system of private nature sanctuaries in the
world.
The Conservancy's International Conservation
Program
is focused on building capacity in local "partner" organizations,
developing practical tools, and leveraging success to areas where
we are not currently involved. Within the International Conservation
Program, the Conservation Science Department provides specialized
knowledge from the biological and human sciences to build science
capacity through training, tool development, and leveraged technical
assistance, assuring quality conservation work and promoting the
development of knowledge networks.

Wildlife Institute of India
The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) was established in 1982 with
a mandate to support nature conservation and foster the development
of wildlife science in India. It was assigned the direct responsibility
for training wildlife managers in their challenging mandate of managing
protected areas, many of them isolated or small, and under severe
pressure from incompatible land-uses. The WII's mission is to (i)
Build capacity and develop human resources in Wildlife Science;
(ii) Develop as a center of excellence in Wildlife Science; (iii)
Provide consultancy and advisory services in Wildlife Conservation;
(iv) Advocate issues relevant to Wildlife Science and Conservation;
(v) Develop as a regional center for South Asia and South-East Asia
for training and research in Wildlife Conservation and (vi) Develop
as a Deemed University in Wildlife Science.
In pursuit of its above mandate the WII is organized in eight departments
which are supported by six cells and other facilities. The WII is
currently staffed by 37 faculty members cutting across the various
disciplines of wildlife science. The WII has linkages and collaborative
programs with a large number of international agencies such as FAO,
UNDP, UNESCO, IUCN, World Bank, GEF, GTF, U.S. Fish & Wildlife
Service (USFWS), USDA Forest Service and U.S. National Park Service.
