Ten World Natural Heritage sites have been selected as pilot sites for this project. All sites were included on the World Heritage list, in part, for their biodiversity values (criterion iv for designation of natural sites). The sites are located in Africa (4 sites), South Asia (3 sites) and Latin America (3 sites). They were selected to represent a range of biomes (marine, freshwater, forest and savannah) and management systems. Two of the sites are currently included on the World Heritage in Danger list. |
