IUCN Management Category: II (National Park)
Natural World Heritage Site; Criteria i, ii, iii, iv
Canaima National Park is spread over three million hectares in
the south-east of Venezuela in Bolívar State along the border
between Guyana and Brazil. Roughly 65 per cent of the park is covered
by table mountain (tepui) formations. The tepuis constitute a unique
biogeological entity and are of great geological interest, with
sheer cliffs and waterfalls, including the highest in the world
- the 1,000 metre Angel Falls. Canaima was established as a national
park on 1962 and inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1994.
